A few lines about myself

I was born in Kinshasa, the capital of RDC (Democratic Republic of the Congo). At the age of 6 I was a member of the children’s choir of the neighbourhood. During that period the “petits chanteurs” were quite famous. From then on music was part of my life. Later on I sang in gospel choirs and in different African music groups.
I sing out of joy, fear, grief and love of life. By singing I try to work through difficult incidents (events) in my life. Whenever I sing, I don’t feel lonely.
However, sport belongs to my life as well. When running in the nature I get strength, sharpen my senses, fill-up my soul and ease my mind. To this very day I workout weekly and run at least two marathons per year.

My parents both have their origin in the province of Bandundu. My mother has always spoken to me in Kisuku. It was very important to her to pass the dialect of the province of Bandundu down to her son. When I work on my lyrics and compose I often do that in Kisuku. This is how I keep the remembrance of my homeland; this is how I express the love for my country and its people best. For this reason all songs on this album are sung in Kisuku.

On the one hand I sing about daily situations of the rural life in the RDC, of people who are poor, hard working and yet do not loose their courage to face life. On the other hand I try to point out that nature is in danger. For example, in the song “Tsunami”, I would like to point out that there is a connection between the global warming and flooding all over the world.
